Join us on Thursday, August 8th for a special Black Tech Night featuring Washington-native, Grammy Award-winning Rapper and Innovator Sir Mix-a-Lot in conversation with Hey, Black Seattle! Founder Kiesha Garrison! This Black Tech Night will feature a dynamic conversation on creativity, innovation, and resilience in recognition of National Black Business Month and National Wellness Month. Open to all who identify as Black and Allies. We hope you can join us!

5:00 - 6:00pm:  Networking, refreshments, and shopping from Black-owned vendors.

6:00 - 7:00pm:  Fireside chat: Creativity, Innovation, and Resilience: A Conversation with Sir Mix-a-Lot and Hey, Black Seattle! Founder, Keisha Garrison

7:00 - 8:00pm:  More time to network, enjoy refreshments, and shop.

Location: M5 Creative, Seattle Center - 401 Mercer St, Seattle, WA (at Mercer Street & 5th Ave.)


Please give ample time for traffic and parking. Parking options include the Mercer Street garage (650 3rd Ave N.), the 5th Avenue N. garage (516 Harrison St.), or available street parking. Rideshare and public transportation is encouraged.


Light refreshments and two drink tickets will be included with each ticket. Must be 21+ to attend. IDs will be checked.


About the Speakers


Sir Mix-a-Lot

Sir Mix-a-Lot, born Anthony Ray, is a Grammy Award-winning rapper, producer, and entrepreneur from Seattle, Washington. He gained international fame with his iconic hit "Baby Got Back," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1992 and earned him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. Known for his witty lyrics and distinctive voice, Sir Mix-a-Lot has been a pioneering force in the music industry since the late 1980s.


Beyond his musical accomplishments, Sir Mix-a-Lot has a strong interest in technology and entrepreneurship. He has been involved in various tech ventures and has spoken about the intersection of music and technology, emphasizing the importance of innovation in the modern entertainment landscape.


Sir Mix-a-Lot's influence extends beyond music and tech; he is also known for his commitment to his community and his efforts to empower and inspire future generations. His legacy as an artist and innovator continues to resonate, making him a respected and influential figure in both the music and tech industries.


Kiesha Garrison

Kiesha Garrison is a dynamic host who leads events & conversations that spark personal, professional, and cultural shifts. She has decades of experience guiding audiences through in-person and virtual learning, development, and entertainment events.


Kiesha combines her 20 years of experience as a business & culture leader at Time, Inc. & Microsoft with her skill as a standup comedian to shine on-stage in various settings. Most recently she served as the Director of Communications and Culture for Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence Platform Engineering team. In this role, she designed strategic messaging and engagement programs that impacted the workplace culture experience and education for a diverse and global staff of thousands.


From tech exec to comedian to professional host – Kiesha has approached her journey courageously living as her full self. Her overarching mission is to connect people to the insight, resources, and experiences they need to thrive in their fullest self-expression. She is a proud Spelman College graduate currently based in Seattle, WA.
